Laura's Version of John Day's Longevity Soup

First thing each morning, I drink 16 ounces of water before getting out of bed.  I take this time to catch on up little chores.  Some of the things I can do with this 20 minutes include:

Today I dealt with the photo gallery on my phone.  I had over 400 images in my camera folder and by the time I was done I had 7.  Yay!  I deleted ones I have no use for whether I liked them or not.  I am in a "paring down" mode (think "Swedish Death Cleanse"), so if I'm on the fence about something I stop and give it a good think.  Do I really have a place for this?  Can I really see a use for this in my future?  So I delete some images and stick the other ones into appropriate folders such as "family photos", "visual inspiration", "jewelry photos that need editing", etc.

Then on to breakfast.  I often have "Longevity Soup" for breakfast.  My version is a bastardization of the one described in John Day's book referenced above.


Here's my "longevity soup" recipe...  

Soup, Longevity C
  • 72g onion
  • 10g garlic
  • 80g hemp seeds (½ C)
  • 90g greens (chard, kale, spinach)
  • 1½ C water
  • ¼ tsp salt
I sauté the onions and garlic in water or stock.  Separately I blend the water and hempseeds in my NutriBullet.  I tried using my vegetable stock once rather than water, but I didn't notice enough taste difference and since I make my stock from scratch (meaning it's a precious commodity), I prefer to save it for occasions where the difference is more noticeable.  

I add the mixed liquid to the onions and garlic, along with the salt.  I let it cook until the greens are wilted.  This makes 2-4 servings.  It's very rich, so I usually have only a small helping each day until it's gone then I might not make it again for another couple of days.
